In this article, we will explore the tragic story of Keyona Griffin and the ongoing hunt for her killer.

Who is Keyona Griffin?

Keyona Griffin was born on March 8, 1994, in the United States of America.

She was the daughter of Ongah Griffin and the sister of Stanford Cummings II.

Keyona was described as a lively and down-to-earth person who loved life and had great aspirations for the future.

She had a close bond with her aunt, Charlotte Baber-Bey, who often hosted her at her home in Grand Rapids.

What happened to Keyona Griffin?

On March 13, 2019, Keyona Griffin was visiting her aunt at her home on 553 Sheldon Avenue SE, where she also lived with her boyfriend, Derrell Demon Brown.

Around 10:25 a.m., Keyona made a frantic 911 call, whispering that someone was trying to kill her and that he had already killed her aunt.

She begged the dispatcher to hurry up and send help, but she was unable to provide a clear address or any other details.

The call ended abruptly after about a minute.

The police traced the call to the Sheldon Avenue house and arrived there seven minutes later.

They knocked on the doors and windows, but they did not hear or see any signs of trouble inside.

The police also ran a license plate check on a vehicle in the driveway and tried to call back Keyona, but they did not get any response.

They left the scene after three minutes, thinking that it might have been a prank call or a mental health issue.

However, two hours later, another 911 call came from the same house.

This time, it was from Keyona’s brother, Sanford Cummings II, who had arrived at the house and found his sister and aunt dead in separate bedrooms upstairs.

He was hysterical and inconsolable as he reported the gruesome scene to the dispatcher.

The police returned to the house and confirmed that both Keyona and Cherletta had been shot multiple times.

Keyona had a gunshot wound to her face, while Charlotte had been shot in the back of the head.

The suspect, Derrell Brown, was nowhere to be found. He had fled the scene shortly after killing his girlfriend and her niece.

Who is Derrell Brown?

Derrell Demon Brown, also known as JJ Robinson, Michael Richardson, or Marcus Wright, is a 48-year-old man who is wanted for the murders of Keyona Griffin and Cherletta Baber-Bey.

He is considered armed and dangerous and has a long criminal history that includes assault, robbery, drug possession, and domestic violence.

Brown met Cherletta at a library in Grand Rapids and started dating her about two years before the murders.

He moved in with her at her Sheldon Avenue house, where he also interacted with Keyona whenever she visited.

However, according to some sources, Keyona did not like Brown and felt uneasy around him.

Brown is believed to have killed Cherletta and Keyona in a fit of rage or jealousy after an argument or a breakup.

He then took off in Cherletta’s car and made several stops in Grand Rapids before ditching the vehicle.

He also used Cherletta’s debit card to withdraw money from an ATM.

The police used surveillance footage and witness statements to track down Brown’s movements after the murders.

They also obtained an arrest warrant for him on two counts of homicide and one count of receiving and concealing a stolen firearm.

However, they were unable to locate him or his whereabouts.
