He also had a recurring role as Billy Colivida on Yes, Dear and appeared in a dozen episodes of My Name Is Earl as a police officer.

Since its premiere in 2019, CBS’s romantic sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola has enchanted viewers. Bob Wheeler (Billy Gardell), the CEO of a compression sock company, suffers a heart attack in the series. When Bob awakens from his coma, he bonds with his nurse, Abishola Adebambo (Folake Olowofoyeku), and falls in love with her. Fans of Bob Hearts Abishola have watched the main character go on a journey between Season 1 and Season 3. What is the secret of Billy Gardell Weight Loss?

Even though working on health is a featured storyline, fans are still surprised to see Billy, who has experienced some weight loss too over the past three seasons.

The comedian and actor have been pretty open about his feelings about his health and how he feels his weight plays into that. We know that entertainment and television aren’t particularly kind to people in larger bodies. And that’s true for guys like Billy, too. Billy has been open about the struggles he had with trying to change some of his eating habits.

In an interview with East Valley Tribune, Billy spoke about a controversy that stemmed from when he starred in Mike & Molly.

The TV show Mike and Molly centered on a romance between Mike, played by Billy, who was an overweight police officer, and Molly, a schoolteacher, who met at an overeaters anonymous meeting.

During the show’s first season, a Marie Claire columnist posted an article titled “Should Fatties Get a Room? (Even on TV)” and while many were upset at the shaming that happened, Billy tried to just let it slide.

“I grew up fat,” he said in a 2011 interview after that Marie Claire article went live. “You think I’ve never heard fat jokes before? I learned a long time ago about life that, hey, sometimes some people just ain’t going to like your face. That’s their thing.”

As the show progressed, Billy Gardell decided to lose some of his trademark weight. He disclosed in an interview that he was worried at first about how his weight may affect the premise of the show but he had the full support of the show’s creator, Mark Roberts.

The actor also disclosed that the support he received from people around him helped make this weight loss journey easier.

Billy Gardell’s weight loss journey

Billy Gardell’s weight loss journey started in 2011 after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Billy realized that he needed help with this problem, so he went through a management treatment process recommended by his doctor.

Working with a trainer on fitness goals and a nutritionist to help tailor a meal plan that will work for him, Billy admits losing weight is still a struggle.

Billy appears to have had some success in whatever he’s trying to do to lose weight now, years later, and on the third season of his new sitcom show Bob Hearts Abishola. It could be because it’s part of his show’s storyline (which wasn’t the case for Mike & Molly), or he’s simply discovered what works for him.
