His time at the university began with a redshirt year in 2017. In 2018, he started as Zack Annexstad’s backup but eventually took over as the starter for the season’s final six games.

He appeared in nine games that season, completing 89 of 152 passes for 1,401 yards in all while managing nine touchdowns and six interceptions.

Tanner’s career in football continued as the Michigan Panthers selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 USFL draft.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic cutting the season’s length to seven games, Morgan kept becoming better in 2020. The Golden Gophers went 7-0 under his leadership, and he threw for 1,389 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2021, when he threw for 2,044 yards and 10 touchdowns, Morgan enjoyed his best season. He helped the Golden Gophers win the Quick Lane Bowl and compile a 9-4 record.

He turned down the offer, though, and made the decision to focus on the 2023 NFL draft instead, when he hoped to be selected.
