Maria Rodriguez, who was born in Venezuela, was Van Damme’s first wife. A year before Jean-Claude decided to stop his professional martial arts career and relocate from Brussels to Los Angeles to start again, the two were married on August 25, 1980.

While attending English classes in Los Angeles, Jean-Claude worked as a carpet layer, limo driver, and pizza delivery guy. He eventually received a recommendation from Chuck Norris for a position as a bouncer at a bar.

The Maria Rodriguez-Jean-Claude Van Damme union, however, failed to withstand the change, and they got divorced in 1984.

2. Cynthia Derderian (24 August 1985 – 1986)

Jean-Claude Van Damme married Cynthia Derderian the following year (1985), but their union did not last as they split up a year later, just as Jean began landing his first acting assignments.

On January 3, 1987, Gladys Portugues, a former bodybuilder, fitness competition, and actress, married Jean Claude Van Damme. Gladys Portugues was 29 years old when they were married. The couple had a son named Kris as their first child on May 20, 1987.

The revelation of an affair led to the dissolution of Jean’s marriage to Gladys during the production of the 1992 movie Universal Soldier.

Darcy LaPier was the third wife of Jean-Claude. Darcy held jobs as an actress, producer, and model. She continued to pursue her interest in rodeo barrel racing, where she won awards while competing across the USA and training nonstop.

On February 3, 1994, Van Damme and LaPier were united in marriage in Bangkok, Thailand; their son Nicolas Van Varenberg was born the following year.

While filming the action movie adaptation of the video game Street Fighter, Van Damme allegedly had an affair with Kylie Minogue, which caused Jean and LaPier to break up in 1997.

The affair between Van Damme and Minogue was first made public following the divorce of Van Damme and LaPier.

5. Gladys Portugues – (25 June 1999 – present)

The first Van Damme-Portugues union disintegrated in 1992 after Van Damme had an affair with model-actress Darcy LaPier, who was also married at the time.

After his split from Darcy, Jean began hanging out with Gladys once more, and finally they came to the conclusion that they were meant to be together.

In 1999, Van Damme and Portugues got back together and got remarried. They are still together now. Both of their children, Bridgette Bianca Van Damme and Kris Van Damme, have successful acting and modeling careers.

2015 saw the emergence of rumors that Jean and Darcy intended to split once more. Gladys apparently has filed the paperwork, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of their breakup.

The couple understood, nevertheless, that their love for one another outweighed any issues they could have had.
