Stephen King is one of the most prolific and popular authors of our time, with over 60 novels and 200 short stories to his name. He is also known as the “King of Horror”, for his mastery of the genre and his ability to scare and thrill millions of readers around the world. But is he still alive and writing, or has he passed away?

The Death Hoax

In 2022, a death hoax circulated on social media, claiming that Stephen King had died of a heart attack at his home in Maine. The hoax was based on a fake news article that mimicked the style and layout of a reputable news outlet. The article claimed that King’s wife, Tabitha, had confirmed his death and that his fans and fellow authors were mourning his loss.

The hoax was quickly debunked by King himself, who posted a tweet on his official account, saying: “I’m not dead. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” He also joked that he was “still here, still writing, still scaring the shit out of you.” According to The Independent.

The Real Health Issues

While the death hoax was a malicious prank, it is true that King has faced some serious health issues in his life. In 1999, he was hit by a van while walking near his home, suffering multiple injuries, including a collapsed lung, a broken hip, and a fractured leg. He underwent several surgeries and a long recovery process, during which he considered retiring from writing. However, he eventually resumed his work, saying that writing helped him cope with the pain and trauma.

In 2003, King revealed that he had been diagnosed with macular degeneration, a condition that affects the central vision and can lead to blindness. He said that he was undergoing treatment and that he was optimistic about his prognosis. He also said that he had no plans to stop writing, as long as he could still see the words on the page.

In 2014, King received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama, who praised him for his contribution to American literature and culture. King said that he was honored and humbled by the award, and that he hoped to continue writing for many more years.
