According to his wife, Chris Snow, the deputy general manager of the Calgary Flames who has ALS, experienced a cardiac arrest that resulted in a “catastrophic brain injury.” Snow has continued to work for the franchise after receiving a Lou Gehrig’s disease diagnosis, popularly known as ALS, in December 2019. But his wife revealed on Wednesday that things had gotten worse.

‘With a shattered heart I’ve come to share that Chris became unresponsive and went into cardiac arrest,’ Kelsie Snow wrote. ‘Paramedics and doctors were able to get his heart beating again but, devastatingly, a scan showed Chris has suffered a catastrophic brain injury caused by lack of oxygen. His doctors do not expect him to wake up from this.’ ‘My chest feels cracked open and hollowed out. Chris is the most beautiful, brilliant person I’ll ever know, and doing life without him feels untenable. Hug your people.’

Snow, now 42, was given a year to live when he was diagnosed. According to a Boston.com post about Snow from earlier this year, Snow’s father, two uncles, and a cousin all passed away with ALS, with a particular mutation running through the family.
