And almost exactly a year later, in July 2001, Walter’s longtime friend and fellow actor Jack Lemmon (1925-2001) was also laid to rest at Pierce Bros.

In addition to the iconic 1968 comedy “The Odd Couple,” Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau collaborated on 10 films, including “The Fortune Cookie,” “The Front Page,” and (at the end of their lives) “Grumpy Old Men.” In “Kotch,” Jack even directed Walter.

Therefore, it is more than logical that they ended up together at Pierce Bros.

Are Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau buried next to each other?

Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kevin Spacey, Sidney Poitier, Shirley MacLaine, Gregory Peck, filmmaker Billy Wilder, and the sons of both Lemmon and Matthau were among the celebrities who attended his burial on July 1.

Between Walter’s site and the chapel door, Jack Lemmon was interred in a fresh row of tombs on the grass. Simply turn right, proceed west down the curb while facing Walter’s grave, and then keep looking to your left (south) until you see a large hedge.

You can locate a row of substantial marble headstones (like the ones above Walter’s tomb) a short further up on the lawn if you circle the hedge.
