Natalie’s Family Raised Her Bilingual

Natalie is fluent in both English and Spanish, a skill she acquired during her upbringing.

Her grandmother, who hailed from a little town ranch near Sinaloa, Mexico, taught her Spanish while looking after her as a child.

Natalie’s grandmother crossed the border into the United States as an illegal immigrant in pursuit of a better future for her four daughters.

To prevent the risk of deportation, Natalie’s grandmother sent her children to English-speaking schools, ensuring they spoke impeccable English to avoid drawing attention.

As she worked on arranging her immigration papers. Natalie also mastered English by communicating solely in that language with her daughters.

Her parents intended for her and her sisters to be bilingual, with the healthcare professional conversing in Spanish and her husband using English.

However, this approach hit a snag as he struggled to understand Natalie’s Spanish communication.
